Admission is $7 for members of Delaware Friends of Folk, $10 for non-members, teens are half-price, and those 12 and under are admitted free. Fresh-brewed coffee, baked cookies and other snacks will be available. Face masks are required on State properties.
This month’s show features the Sussex County based Bryan Scar Duo. Bryan began his life journey in 1991 in the town of Lewes. He was born into a family with a deep love of music, a passion that Bryan inherited at an early age. Bryan’s first guitar was a flamenco guitar handed down from his uncle. As he moved in and out of various bands through high school/college, Bryan developed a unique songwriting style composed of his many influences, including John Denver, Billy Joel, and Jim Croce. During this time, he also gained experience as a composer, thus mastering the song process from start to finish.
After 1 year of studying music in Los Angeles, Bryan returned to his home state of Delaware in late 2012 to start his journey as a solo artist. He draws his inspiration from America's countryside, his personal journey as an artist, and events in history. Since 2013 he has released 4 albums, played numerous times on local radio and television stations & got nominated for "Best Local Artist" award in 2016. He performs in breweries and restaurants from Delaware all the way to Tennessee. Bryan is appearing with fiddler John Heinz, a member of his trio "Bryan & The Barn Owls".
John Heinz was born in New Jersey. His parents were opera stars Jerome Heinz and Lucia Evangelista. John grew up listening to opera but was eventually swayed by country music that he mixed with many other genres. He moved to the Eastern shore in early 2000 and has played in numerous bands, opening for Trace Atkins, Little Big Town, and Doyle Lawson and Quick Silver. John also did a stint in Nashville. He’s currently a NASA technician still finds a place to love music.
Opening the evening will be Shane Palko, a folk musician from “Delmarpa” who has performed his original songs in more than 25 countries across 6 continents. Shane has released at least one full length studio album per year for more than a decade. He is excited to share some of his time-tested tunes, as well as newer songs, composed in the stillness of recent years.
Some Delaware Friends of Folk coffee house concerts are supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
