Coffee House Bob Barto / Last Chance

On Saturday, March 19, 2022, Delaware Friends of Folk will present their monthly coffee house concert in their new venue—the Dover Art League, 21 W. Loockerman St, in Dover, beginning at 7:30 pm.  Admission is $7 for members of Delaware Friends of Folk, $10 for non-members, teens are half-price, and those 12 and under are admitted free.  Fresh-brewed coffee, baked cookies and other snacks will be available.  Full vaccination is recommended and due to state regulations, face masks are required.

This concert marks the third event in a new partnership between Delaware Friends of Folk and the Dover Art League.  After over 26 years of coffee house concerts at Wesley College, Friends of Folk are excited to be in “downtown” Dover and look forward to being an active participant on Loockerman Street.

This month’s show features the Philadelphia-based duo Last Chance.  Jack Scott and Ingrid Rosenback met in 2011 and formed Last Chance the following year.  Ingrid is a classically trained violinist and Jack is a lifelong fan of folk and rock music.  It’s an unlikely duo, but it works.  They perform exclusively original songs.  Both sing, Jack plays guitar and 5-string banjo and Ingrid plays fiddle and harmonica.

Last Chance has appeared throughout the greater Philadelphia area.  They’ve performed three times at the Philadelphia Folk Festival (2016, 2019, 2020), various theaters and folk clubs, the Philadelphia's Hard Rock Cafe, and the Delmarva Folk Festival as winners of the 2018 Folk Hero contest. Last Chance also proudly participates in the WXPN Musicians on Call program.

The duo's latest album, “Timeless Hours,” released in December 2021, is available for downloading and streaming on Bandcamp at lastchance3.bandcamp.com/ as are their earlier releases, “Summer Again,” (2020), "Claiming the Sky," (2018), "Endless Flight" (2016), and “We Came to Play” (2013).  Many of their songs have been played on college and community radio stations across the U.S, Canada, and Europe.

Opening the evening will Smyrna-based pianist Bab Barto.   Bob began playing music at a very young age.  Besides the piano, he also plays fiddle, guitar,  mandolin, concertina, and harmonica.  In the mid 70’s and early 80’s he toured the country performing a one-man multi-media presentation for a company specializing in high school assembly programs. Being alone on the road for up to six months at a time was an inspiration for many of his original songs which he wrote on the guitar.  He performed as a musician for two seasons at Busch Gardens, The Old Country where he developed the character of Cowboy Bob for “The Goodtime Country Show.”  Bob eventually settled down and got a real job out of necessity.

This Delaware Friends of Folk event is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.  The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
